The Fog & Smoke Menu



You can add fog & smoke to your picture or animation using the Fog & Smoke
option in composer. A lot of the properties of the fog & smoke can be
changed from key frame to key frame in an animation.


You will need to enable Fog and Smoke on the options category in Composer,
for the fog & smoke to be rendered. Enable it by placing a check in it's box.



The Fog & Smoke controls are located on the environment category
in Composer. This is where you set the color and all the properties of the fog & smoke.



There are 2 color swatch to set the color with, once you select
the color it will appear in the Fog & Smoke color window.
The color can be changed from key frame to key frame.



One color swatch is brought up by clicking on the color window.

Your cursor will turn into an eye dropper, go down and select a color.
and it will appear in the color window.



The other swatch is located by clicking on the color wheel.
It is a custom color maker palette.



To adjust the properties of the fog & smoke click on the Fog & Smoke options.

And the Fog & Smoke Menu will appear.




The Fog column lets you adjust properties of the fog.
All these setting can be changed from key frame to key frame.

Start: determines the distance from the camera that the fog first appears.

Strength: sets the thickness of the fog.

Falloff : determines how quickly the fog dissipates over distance.
low falloff means thicker fog over distance, high falloff means thinner fog over distance.



The Smoke column lets you adjust properties of the smoke.
All these setting can be changed from key frame to key frame except Detail.
Detail will reflect the last number entered in all the key frame.

Strength: sets the visibility of the smoke. The range of values is 1 to 100%.

Density: sets the thickness of the smoke.
Higher Density means thicker smoke in the areas where smoke is present,
lower Density means thinner smoke in these areas.

Contrast: determines how much of the of the work space will have smoke or
the areas where smoke is present. This also controls how much of the work
space will have fog also.

Random Seed: is the number used to create the smoke, changing this number between
key frames will make the smoke appear to be moving in an animation.

Detail: Makes the smoke more or less distinct, larger numbers mean more, lower numbers mean less.
This setting can not be changed from key frame to key frame.
and will reflect the last number entered in all the key frame.



Pressing the cancel button will exit the menu without any changes being saved.
Pressing the OK button will exit the menu and save all setting you made.

To change these setting from key frame to key frame,
Open the Fog & Smoke menu and adjust the settings then exit pressing OK button.
Go and set a key frame, then come back and make the changes
press OK and set another key frame... and so on.



Using Fog & Smoke will increase the render time in animation and still pictures.
