First select the object and give it a paint job
or a texture.
For the most part you will need to position
the object in composer before proceeding.
Then go to meshman on the New pull down menu
in one of the work spaces.

Select MeshMan and create a new object with simplify
and Protect edges during decimation selected.

This will make a new object and place it right on
top or inside the original object
no matter where it's placed in composer.
Go to Paint & Optics or Texture and give the new
object a new look.
Now when you render in composer the new object
should slight show
though giving an old or rustic look to the object.
Here are some examples

|
|
|
For more detailed objects increase the polygon count
in MeshMan
by selecting Quad instead of simplify.
|
|
You can also change the Optic settings for each object for some cool effects.
|
If for some reason you need to reposition after
applying this technique
the easiest way is to use the position menu
located on the rotate & bank
pull down menu.
Warning: if you merge the two the new object
will take on the surface material
of the first object selected for merging. And
lose the effect.

Move the first object to it's new position.
then type in the exact same coordinates for the
second
object and click OK.
