Hierarchy
A hierarchy creates a parent child
relationship between 2 or more objects.
Creating a hierarchy is very useful for complex models made up of many objects,
also
for setting up many objects in a scene which may need to be manipulated or
moved around.
There are 3 hierarchy tools in Amorphium Pro
when you select a tool it appears in the tool window and
a description will pop up if you hold the pointer over it.
Link to parent will link the first object you click on, to
the second object you click on. The first object will
be the child, the second object will be the parent.
Parent objects can have many child objects. A child object can be a parent
to other objects too.
Unlink from parent will remover the child object you click on, from the hierarchy.
Clicking on a parent object with this tool will not unlink any child objects
it has,
it will only unlink it from any parent object it has.
The flatten hierarchy tool, will turn all the objects in the
hierarchy into one object when you click on the parent. It does remove the
hierarchy but not in the way of removing parent child relationship.
If you have
5 objects in a hierarchy and use the flatten tool you now have 1 object, with
all 5 parts.
The flatten tool only works on parent objects, it will flatten the hierarchy
of all
the child objects of the parent. If one of the child objects is a parent
of other child
objects, it will flatten them as well. If you use it on a child object the
hierarchy will not be flatten.
When you use the flatten hierarchy tool all children will take on the material
set to the parent.
The paint will stay intact on all objects.
The undo command on the project pull down menu will undo all of the hierarchy
tools.
The Project Window
When an object has a hierarchy or one is made, the parent objects
will have an arrow before it's name clicking the arrow will reveal it's
children listed under it on the project window.
And the child objects, which are parents too,
will also have an arrow with it's children listed under it.

Tools that effect the entire hierarchy
When a parent object is selected all the Object Xform tools ( movement
tool ) effect
the whole hierarchy including scale and drop to floor. As well if you delete
a parent object
all of it's children are deleted to. If you duplicate a parent object
all it's children
are duplicated to.
When a parent object is selected all the properties on the Xform menu effect
the whole hierarchy.
When a boolean is done using a parent object, only the parent effects the
boolean, the parent's children are deleted.
When boolean is done using a child object, some very strange effects
are created depending on which type of boolean you use and which
object is used first in the boolean ( the child or the object not part of
the hierarchy )
Wax & Biospheres
Wax & Biosphere objects can be made into hierarchy, but if you
use the convert to mesh tool on a child it is no longer part of the hierarchy.
If you use the convert to mesh tool on the parent all it's children are deleted.
The flatten hierarchy tool works on both wax & biosphere.
If you use the convert to wax tool on a mesh parent, all it's children are
deleted.
Importing & Exporting Hierarchy
When you export a model with a hierarchy, the hierarchy will
appear in order on the export menu. Select all the mesh in the model
to export.
If you export as Amorphium 2 file, the hierarchy will stay in order.
As Amorphium 1 or other file type the hierarchy will only have one parent
( the first object selected on the list )
If you select the export texture map option. Each
part of the hierarchy will
have it's own texture map saved with it.
When you import any file type other then Amorphium 2 with a hierarchy,
there will only be one parent. If you export as obj a mtl file will be exported
with it.
